LG V20 Review: Everything But the Kitchen Sink

The V Series is basically LG’s do-all, be-all smartphone. It’s a relatively new series, with the V20 being just the second iteration. For the longest time, LG has been looking for an answer to Samsung’s hugely popular Note series. Unfortunately for them, just enlarging their flagship “G” series, and adding the “Pro” or "Flex" moniker does little to boost its popularity.

Motorola is (sort of) back!

When I heard the new Lenovo showroom in Marina Square had a Moto booth showcasing and selling Motorola phones, I went down to have a look as soon as I had time.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: Edge-traordinary

While there were plenty of new flagship devices announced over the past few weeks, Samsung is the first to get the device into the hands of consumers with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Not only is it the first major flagship release for 2016, the Galaxy S7 also has some big shoes to fill considering how good the Galaxy S6, and the Galaxy Note 5 were. So let’s take a better look at the Galaxy S7 Edge, and see if it is a worthy successor.

Motorola Moto X Style (Pure Edition) - BLTN

The 3rd generation Moto X, or Style, or Pure Edition, didn’t really pique my interest when it was announced. It didn’t have any new innovative features like past Moto X series of devices, and from what I can tell, it is meant to be a bang for the buck phone with good, but not great specifications. Which is part of the reason why it took so long for me to get hold of the phone to try out.

Sony Xperia Z5 Review: Same Same, But Different

Yup, you read it right. Yet another Sony Z-series flagship phone review. In case you have forgotten, here's a quick reminder. While the Xperia Z3+ was announced in late May (if you don't count the Z4), the phone only arrived in Singapore early July. So after just little over 3 months, I now have the Xperia Z5 in my hands. And nope, I have no idea what the folks over at Sony were smoking.

Quick Thoughts on the Xiaomi Mi 4i

The Mi 4i was officially launched in Singapore on the 12th of May, at just S$279. I managed to get my hands on one, and would like to share some quick thoughts on the device after spending a bit of time with it as my daily driver.

Just slightly over a week ago on the 28th of February 2015, the Nexus 6 was officially available for sale in Singapore. I got my hands on one, and would like to share some of my personal thoughts on the device.

HTC Desire 816

The HTC Desire 816 is an interesting device. I remember really liking it when it was announced earlier this year, particularly the design of it. I finally got my hand one recently, and thought I would share my thoughts on the device.

Xiaomi Redmi Note

So… about a week ago, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi began selling the Redmi Note in Singapore. The device boasts some pretty decent specs for just $199 Singapore dollars (SGD) (~160 USD). But is it actually any good, or would you be better off spending a little bit more for other low end devices like the Moto G? Read on to find out more.

Moto G

Just about a week ago, I finally caved and bought the Moto G. While the circumstances that led to me getting the Moto G was pretty abrupt, I did not regret my decision at all. After all, this is a device I have been eagerly waiting to be released locally ever since its announcement.

Cheap and Cheerful

Jeremy Clarkson once said and I quote, "There’s no such thing as cheap and cheerful. It’s cheap and nasty & expensive and cheerful." Granted he was talking about cars, but I think the same can be applied for smartphones. Can a smartphone be both “cheap and cheerful” at the same time? Motorola is certainly going to try.

BlackBerry 10 Dream App: Group Share

This is my BlackBerry 10 Dream App, Group Share. The name and the picture above should be pretty self-explanatory. Not sure if this is possible with the APIs yet, but one can dream. (Miracast? WiFi Direct?)

Let's Get Physical... again

More than a year ago, I wrote an article titled “Let’s Get Physical”, talking about how there is still a place for Physical Keyboards on a smartphone. More than a year has passed, and virtual keyboard technology has improved by leaps and bounds. BlackBerry 10 is now in the hands of consumers, and the first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical QWERTY keyboard will soon be release in Singapore. So, I thought this would a good time to revisit that topic. Is having a physical keyboard still worth sacrificing the screen size?

Why BlackBerry 10?

"Why BlackBerry 10?" is one of the question that is being asked constantly by many. Having used all 4 major platform extensively, I thought I would give my own take on it, and why I choose BlackBerry 10 instead of other seemingly more viable options.

BlackBerry Z10 & LG Nexus 4

First of all, let me apologise for the potato I used to take these photos. I was unable to find a better camera at the time I decided to post this.

Also, I will not be talking about actual specs, those can be found easily on the interwebs. I will also be selective in choosing features that matters to me more to discuss. You may say its bias, and IT IS. This is not about which phone is better than the other, its about which phone suits ME better. So it does not matter if one phone does something better that does not matter to me. If you are looking for a platform dissing article, you should move along.
