Cheap and Cheerful

Jeremy Clarkson once said and I quote, "There’s no such thing as cheap and cheerful. It’s cheap and nasty & expensive and cheerful." Granted he was talking about cars, but I think the same can be applied for smartphones. Can a smartphone be both “cheap and cheerful” at the same time? Motorola is certainly going to try.

The recently announced Moto G costs 179 USD for the 8GB model and the 199 USD for the 16GB model. It translates to around 250 SGD for those of us in Singapore. That is cheap, especially for a device with a 720p 4.5” display, Snapdragon 400 1.2Ghz quad core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 5MP camera. This is a phone which makes the already insanely value for money Lumia 5XX/6XX series feels expensive (considering most of them has a slower processor, lower resolution displays, and half the RAM).

Is this device for everyone? Probably not. But I dare say it will suit the needs of most people. Can’t wait to get my hands on one.
